I AM BORED!
Have you ever heard or said this sentence before?
Probably the answer will be “Yes” and probably you say it most of the times in a day, therefore; it is so familiar. When boredom settles in, we probably try to find ways to get rid of it? I mean who doesn’t want to entertain himself when he is bored?
Imagine what you do to get rid of this boredom! We ask ourselves why we are bored but it is in vain because the most probable answer to this question would be “I don’t know but I am still bored, I want to do something but I don’t know what, I want to eat something but I don’t know what…” We don’t know the reason but boredom is still there.
Indeed, this feeling is not causeless or unreasonable. No matter how it seems to be unexplainable, there are many explanations. The most important reason of this feeling is the lack of spiritual peace.
Lack of Spiritual Peace
Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest! (Surah Ra’d, 28)
He it is Who sent down peace of reassurance into the hearts of the believers that they might add faith unto their faith. (Surah al-Fath, 4)
As our body needs to be fed, our soul needs to be fed as well. The food of our soul is worshipping, praying, knowing Allah. Our nature needs these cures and since man is so entangled in worldly pleasures he cannot see the need of his soul but his soul continues his cries both silently or very aggressively. Then man starts to ignore these cries or over and above he starts to suppress the silent cries of his soul. As a result this boredom turns into a turbulence and depression. It becomes like a cancer or infection. So it spoils the comfort of this life and it causes you to lose the peace in the hereafter as well.
Even though how hard man finds praying, worshipping and knowing Allah, it is actually so easy and comforting and relaxing. If you take into consideration that in order to attain the sake of Allah and Jannah and comfort
in this life and in the hereafter, praying five times a day and avoiding what is forbidden are not so much.
