THE TERM “JIHAD” (STRUGGLE) IS USED AROUND
40, times in the Qur’an while “qital” or war is used around 167 times, with a connotation of a dynamic process leading to a systematic change in the attitude and behavior of individual and society.
A movement from chaos to order, from “zulm” or tyranny to “adl” or justice, from “taghut” or oppression to freedom and peace. The Objective of Jihad in the Qur’an: Not to convert but to communicate and Invite (da’wah)
“There is no compulsion in din” Al-Baqarah 2:256 – “To you is your religion and to me my is way of life” al-Kafirun 109: 6.
Conclusion:
1. Jihad is primarily a strategy and movement for “Islah” (correction), “Salam” (peace) and social, economic, political, religious, cultural and legal justice or “adl” in society.
2. It calls for a proactive approach; To take initiative for removal of Injustice, Inequity, exploitation, oppression and persecution from society; and
3. It stands for restoration of human rights of people, realization of security, dignity, order and peace in society.
